We’re a B Corp™. Here’s what that actually means.
Plenty of businesses say they’re doing things the right way. We asked someone independent to come in and take a proper look at how we run ours.
No shortcuts. Just a proper look at how we run the business. Turns out we passed. We’re officially B Corp certified.
Safe to say we’re pretty chuffed.
What even is B Corp?
B Corp certification is awarded by B Lab, a global non-profit that assesses businesses against rigorous standards of social and environmental performance. Think of it less like a tick-box exercise and more like a very thorough MOT of our entire business, how we treat our people, suppliers, customers, and the world we operate in.
It’s genuinely hard to get. As of 2025, there are less than 3,000 certified B Corps in the UK, icon® is 1 of 33 in the North East. It requires transparency, accountability, and a willingness to be found wanting in some areas - and then actually doing something about it.s.
A bit about us, if we’ve not met.
We’re a Northern business, and proud of it. icon® was built on a simple idea: well-made, comfortable things belong in real homes. Not just the magazine ones. The lived-in ones. The ones with kids, dogs, and chairs that are actually sat on.
From our Northern roots to homes across the UK and Europe, that principle hasn’t changed. If anything, it matters more today than ever.
We believe in making things properly, treating people well, and not cutting corners just because we can.
Becoming a certified B Corp is an important milestone for us. It’s independent recognition that we’re building the business the right way, with accountability for how we design products, run our supply chain, and treat the people around us.
For us, it isn’t the finish line. It’s a commitment to keep raising the bar.
What it means when you buy from us
When you choose icon®, you’re choosing something made properly. Designed for real homes and real life - not just for a season.
And, it’s not just about the product. B Corp certification means the business behind it has been independently assessed for how it operates, from our supply chains to how we treat people, our environmental impact, and the communities we’re part of.
It’s accountability for the whole business, not just the things we sell.
What it doesn’t mean
B Corp doesn’t mean we’re perfect. It doesn’t mean every product is the most sustainable option available, or that the work is finished.
What it does mean is that we’ve chosen to be measured properly. Our decisions, from materials to how we run the business, are assessed against a recognised standard, and every few years we have to prove we’re improving.
In other words, it keeps us honest.
Right Then. What’s Next?
Over the next few months we’ll share more about the process, what certification involved, what we learned, and where we know we can do better.
No corporate waffle.
